Knee tendon pain
Knee pain that affects squatting, jumping, stairs or training.
Get back to walking, sleeping and training without your hip deciding what you can do.
The side of your hip that aches when you lie on it. The walk or run that gets uncomfortable. The stairs, hills, getting out of the car or standing at work that you now manage differently. You stretch it, rest it, change shoes or avoid the movements that set it off — and it still comes back when normal life picks up.

Not sure whether this is the right diagnosis or what treatment you need? Start with Premier’s Tendon Clinic. We will assess the problem, begin appropriate treatment on your first visit and give you a clear plan for what happens next.
You start choosing the other side of the bed, avoiding long walks, changing your stride or stopping runs early. You may still be functioning — but the pain is quietly deciding how you sleep, move and exercise.
The question is not just how to settle it today. It is what is driving it, what your hip can handle now, and how to get back to the activity you actually want.
Doing less can make symptoms settle. But if your hip is not ready for the walking, running, sleep positions or work demands you return to, the same pain can keep repeating.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY TRIED THE USUAL ADVICE
Changing position may take the edge off, but you need a clearer explanation of what the area is tolerating and how to build it back up.
If rest helps but your normal activity restarts the pain, the plan needs to bridge the gap back to the real thing you want to do.
If the answer has not lasted, you deserve a more specific assessment and a plan that progresses with you.
YOUR 45–60 MINUTE OUTER HIP ASSESSMENT
We start with what you want back, then assess the painful area and the wider picture — including hip and pelvic strength, movement, capacity and the demands your body is being asked to handle.
You leave knowing what we think is most likely involved, what treatment may add value now, and the next practical steps toward your goal.

Pain on the outside of the hip, especially with walking, running, stairs or lying on that side, may involve the gluteal tendons and how they are currently tolerating load.
Night pain or pain lying on one side deserves a proper assessment, not endless attempts to sleep around it.
If reducing activity settles it but your normal week brings it back, you need a clear bridge from now to your real goal.
WHERE SHOCKWAVE FITS
Shockwave Therapy may be useful for some persistent gluteal tendon presentations. It is not a substitute for a proper assessment or progressive plan; it is one possible tool within the right plan.
We use the tools that fit your assessment — not the same treatment for every painful hip.
BACK TO THE THINGS YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO DO
It is sleeping on either side, walking without thinking about every step, running, hiking, training and getting through your day without your hip setting the limits.
Your goal is not just less pain. It is being able to move and live without constantly protecting your hip.
WHEN TO TAKE ACTION
Your first appointment is designed to give you a clear answer and begin appropriate treatment on the day. We start with what you want back, assess the painful area and the wider picture, explain what we think is most likely involved, then select the treatment that makes the most sense for you.
Depending on what your physiotherapist finds, treatment may include hands-on care, dry needling, Shockwave Therapy, exercise or another appropriate physiotherapy approach. You leave knowing what was started, what to do next and how the plan will build towards your goal.
Book an outer hip pain assessmentOuter hip pain can have different drivers. Gluteal tendon-related pain is one possibility, particularly when walking, running, stairs or lying on that side aggravate symptoms. An assessment helps clarify what is most likely involved.
Pressure and position can aggravate a sensitive outer hip. An assessment helps identify the broader pattern and how to make sleep and daily life more manageable while building capacity.
That depends on your symptoms, current tolerance and goals. You should not have to guess between stopping everything and pushing through; your plan should clarify what to modify and how to build back.
It may be appropriate for some persistent gluteal tendon presentations. Whether it fits depends on your assessment and broader plan.
Not every outer hip problem needs imaging. Your clinician will explain when a scan is likely to add useful information.
Bring relevant scans or past treatment information, and a clear sense of what you most want to get back to.
Yes. Your physiotherapist will assess the problem first and begin appropriate treatment during your 45–60 minute appointment. The treatment provided will depend on what they find.
